On December 8, 2023, the JPO announced the creation and publication of the Examination Guidelines for Similar Goods and Services.

This is a standard that groups goods or services presumed to be similarly related, assigns a specific code for each group search, and is used as a uniform standard for examiners.
The application will be effective from January 1, 2024.
