On March 28, 2024, the JPO published Status Report 2024.
In FY2023, 164,061 trademark applications were filed in Japan, down 6,214 from the previous year. Of these, 17,397 were filed via the Madrid Protocol, and 146,664 were filed directly.

By nationality/region, Japan ranked first with 122,213, followed by China with 14,536, the U.S. with 8,222, South Korea with 3,744, and Germany with 1,831.
Booklets of the JPO Status Report 2024 will be distributed free of charge at the JPO Application Reception Counter and INPIT from late April onward. The distribution will end while supplies last.
In addition, the booklet will be available at the JPO Library from May 2024.
