On July 29, 2024, the JPO published the 2024 Patent Administration Annual Report.
The number of patent applications filed with the JPO in FY2023 was 300,133, up approximately 3.7% from the previous year.
The number of applications was boosted by areas of development competition, such as an increase in applications related to artificial intelligence.

The top 30 companies in terms of patent applications account for 25% of the total, and are strengthening their response to the field of information and communication technology and other technological innovations, especially in the major manufacturing industries.
