2021.7.21. / Japan Patent Office Publishes Annual Report 2021

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has compiled the "Annual Report on Patent Administration 2021" on domestic and international trends in intellectual property and the JPO's efforts to deepen interest in and understanding of the intellectual property system.

International intellectual property trends show that the number of patent applications worldwide has increased 1.6 times in the decade since 2010 due to a remarkable increase in the number of patent applications filed in China.
It is also reported that the number of applications filed in China in 2019 accounts for about 43% of the world's applications, and that the number of patent applications filed with the patent offices of the three Asian countries of Japan, China and South Korea in fiscal 2019 reached about 1.93 million, growing to account for 60% of the world's 3.22 million patent applications.
