2022.2.16. / Japan Patent Office Strengthens Measures against Trademark Risk in China and Taiwan

On January 31, 2021, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) announced that it will strengthen its comprehensive support in cooperation with related organizations in order to deal with the risk of third parties applying for and registering Japanese place names, their own trademarks, regional brands, etc. in China and Taiwan.
In the future, the JPO will provide information to local governments, regional companies, and other related parties, and at the same time, strengthen overall support for voluntary efforts such as early trademark registration and requests for cancellation.

The main support is as follows
1. Preparation and provision of manuals on trademark searches and legal measures in China and Taiwan
2. Establishment of a "special consultation service on trademark infringement issues" in Beijing and Taipei
