With the remarkable development of AI-related technology in recent years, the JPO has investigated the status of AI-related patent applications in Japan and overseas, assuming that patent applications have increased across technical fields and this trend will continue.

As a result of the investigation, it was found that half of the related patents referred to “deep learning” (deep learning), which is one of the machine learning methods, and there were many applications in the field of image processing and information retrieval.
