2021.5.17. / Promulgation of a bill to partially amend the Patent Law, etc.

On May 17, 2021, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) disclosed that the "Draft Law for Partial Revision of the Patent Law, etc.," which was passed and enacted on May 10, 2018, was promulgated as Law No. 3 on May 17, 2021.

 It responds to the changes in the nature of economic activities triggered by the spread of COVID-19 infection, such as digitalization, remote work and non-contact.
The revised points are as follows

(1) Establishment of procedures for digitization, etc.
(2) Review of rights protection in response to changes in corporate behavior accompanying the progress of digitization, etc.
(3) Strengthening the foundations of the intellectual property system
