2022.9.27. ／ Japan Patent Office Expands Authority of Power of Attorney to Accept Copies

The JPO announced that as of September 26, 2022, a copy of the original power of attorney will also be treated as a document proving the authority of representation in order to improve the convenience of administrative procedures.
After the promulgation date of September 26, 2022, in addition to the original power of attorney, a copy of the power of attorney will be required to prove the power of attorney.

As for a power of attorney with electronic data as the original, even if the power of attorney was created before the effective date, a copy of the power of attorney will be permitted to be submitted after the effective date.
