On October 14, 2022, the JPO announced that, in accordance with a Cabinet decision, the deadline for the advance payment of patent fees, etc. by patent revenue stamps will expire on March 31, 2023.

With the ongoing digitization of administrative procedures, the law was amended to require prepayment of patent fees, etc. in cash, bank transfer, etc., instead of patent revenue stamps, and a prepayment period using patent revenue stamps was established as a transitional measure.
