On April 1, 2023, the JPO established the Overseas Business Development Support Office in the International Cooperation Division of the General Affairs Department in order to strengthen the function of supporting overseas business development by small and medium-sized enterprises, etc. utilizing intellectual property.

With the establishment of the Overseas Development Support Office, all operations of the Overseas Development Support Project, the Anti-Counterfeiting Office of the International Cooperation Division, and the Overseas Strategy Group, which had been handled by the Dissemination Support Division and the Planning and Research Division, were transferred to the new office.
