Patent System in Japan

From October 1, 2020, the fees for international applications will be revised.
For those who pay international application-related fees on or after October 1, 2020, please note that the amounts and applicability of the various fees will change. The changes are as follows.

The JPO has published a leaflet on the "fast track examination" of trademarks in response to the fact that the first results of examination for trademarks filed after February 1, 2020 will be notified about six months after filing the application.

The JPO will hold the "Intellectual Property Miata - Traveling Patent Office" from September 8, 2020 to February 2021 in nine cities across the country.

On June 29, 2020, Kyoto University announced a policy of releasing its patents and other assets free of charge for research and development with the sole purpose of preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has released the University Fact Book 2020 to introduce university initiatives for industry-academia-government collaboration to businesses.
Together with the Nippon Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the MEXT has compiled the fact book with the aim of expanding full-fledged industry-academia-government collaboration.
