Patent System in Japan

On June 6, 2022, the JPO announced the reduction and exemption of "examination fees" and "patent fees (1-10 years)" for small and medium-sized enterprises based on the "Law Partially Amending the Unfair Competition Prevention Law, etc.".

The JPO began jurisdiction over international searches and international preliminary examinations in international applications with the Saudi Arabian Intellectual Property General Directorate as the receiving office, effective June 1, 2022.

The Japan Patent Attorneys Association Kansai-kai will hold an online seminar on "SDGs and Intellectual Property" on July 2, 2022, to commemorate "Patent Attorney Day" (July 1 every year).

On May 10, 2022, the JPO decided to suspend the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) with the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO).
