Patent System in Japan

On August 4, 2021, Nintendo Co., Ltd. and Coropla Inc. announced that they have agreed to settle a patent infringement lawsuit regarding Coropla's game application for smart devices, "Shirokane Project.

On June 30, 2021, the National Tax Agency designated locally produced sake and wine products in Nagano, Yamagata and Osaka prefectures as Geographical Indications (GI) for alcoholic beverages.
Other prefectures such as Hokkaido, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, and Okinawa have also received the designation.

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has compiled the "Annual Report on Patent Administration 2021" on domestic and international trends in intellectual property and the JPO's efforts to deepen interest in and understanding of the intellectual property system.
