Patent System in Japan

On October 6, 2022, Ishikawa Governor Hase visited the Japan Patent Office to submit a request for cooperation in registering the prefecture's specialty luxury grape "Ruby Roman" as a trademark in Korea.
Ruby Roman was developed by a prefectural research center over a 14-year period.

On September 30, 2022, the Intellectual Property High Court initiated the first "third-party opinion solicitation" in a patent infringement case.
The third-party opinion solicitation system, which went into effect in April 2022, solicits opinions from a wide range of third parties, including overseas parties, upon motion by a party, and the opinions gathered can be used by the parties to the case as evidence at trial.

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has announced that it will revise the fees for international applications for trademarks under the Protocol to the Madrid Agreement.

The JPO announced that as of September 26, 2022, a copy of the original power of attorney will also be treated as a document proving the authority of representation in order to improve the convenience of administrative procedures.
After the promulgation date of September 26, 2022, in addition to the original power of attorney, a copy of the power of attorney will be required to prove the power of attorney.
