Patent System in Japan

On March 15, 2023, the JPO announced that it will suspend fast-track examination of trademarks as of March 31, 2023, due to the shortened examination period.
However, applications filed prior to March 31, 2023 that meet the requirements for fast-track examination will be subject to fast-track examination.

On March 3, 2023, Osaka Customs released information on the status of the seizure of counterfeit brand goods and other intellectual property infringing goods at Osaka Customs in fiscal year 2022.
The number of import suspensions increased for the third consecutive year to 9,391 (106% over the previous year), while the number of suspended items increased for the second consecutive year to 313,757 (111.1% over the previous year).
