Patent System in Japan

On March 3, 2023, the JPO held the 4th *IP BASE AWARD ceremony.
Each award was selected from a total of 55 applications.
The winners in the start-up category are as follows.

On March 6, 2023, the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, Cabinet Office, Government of Japan began soliciting opinions for the formulation of the "Intellectual Property Strategic Plan 2023.
Opinions are solicited on points that should be reviewed and new policy matters that should be included in the Intellectual Property Strategic Plan (2022).

On March 10, 2023, the JPO issued another notice regarding the termination of prepayment deposits by patent revenue stamps.
Pre-payment by patent revenue stamps will end as of March 31, 2023.

On January 10, 2023, the European Patent Office (EPO) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) published a joint report on the status of hydrogen-related patent applications worldwide.
According to the report, Japan was found to be the top applicant for patents in the 10-year period from 2011 to 2020, accounting for 24% of the total number of patent applications.

On November 25, 2022, the University of Tokyo published "University of Tokyo Intellectual Property Report 2022: Intellectual Property of the University of Tokyo Utilized - Toward Social Implementation of Research Results", the first report on intellectual property by a Japanese university.
