Patent System in Japan

On December 14, 2022, the JPO announced that it will expand the means of prepayment, one of the payment methods for patent fees and commissions, and will start prepayment deposit by electronic cash; Pay-easy, using the Internet application software from January 2023.

Panasonic Holdings has embarked on the creation of a system to share information on intellectual property and engineers accumulated within the company with external companies and organizations.
Share information on intellectual property with other companies to develop new business.
By the end of FY2023, the company plans to release a search system for its patents and other technical information.

On November 18, 2022, the JPO announced that the Japan-India Patent Prosecution Highway Program; Phase III, will end on November 20, 2022.

On November 1, 2022, the JPO announced a two-year extension of the Expanded Collaborative Search Pilot Program.
The purpose of the Japan-U.S. Collaborative Search is for patent examiners in Japan and the U.S. to conduct searches of inventions for which patent applications have been filed in both countries, and to share their findings and opinions so that patent examiners in Japan and the U.S. can send their initial examination results earlier and at the same time.

On November 8, 2022, the JPO announced that effective December 1, the fees for individual designation of Japan for international design applications will be revised.
Attention should be paid when filing an international application designating Japan.
