Patent System in Japan

On May 16, 2023, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) released a preliminary report on the results of its FY202 survey on university-launched ventures.
As of October 2022, the number of university-launched ventures was 3,782.
This is an increase of 477 firms from the 3,305 firms in FY2021, a record number of firms in both number of firms and increase in number of firms.

On April 14, 2023, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry sent out information about a new product, a bonito shaver, jointly developed by "Ibusuki Katsuobushi" of Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, and "Miki Hardware" of Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture, with the cooperation of a regional collective trademark.

On April 18, 2023, the Japan Patent Office announced that it will subsidize half of the costs related to foreign applications for startups to establish new businesses in foreign countries.
From this year, not only application procedures but also interim responses, etc. will be covered by the subsidy.

On April 14, 2023, the JPO, together with the METI Chubu Bureau of Economy,Trade and Industry, the Export and International Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Hokuriku Regional Agricultural Administration Office, concluded a "Collaboration Agreement on the Protection and Use of Intellectual Property Rights" with Ishikawa Prefecture.

The "snore care product" for which we were in charge has now become a full-fledged project through the use of crowdfunding.
Focusing on the breathing sound produced when airflow passes through the upper airway during breathing, the product uses a special microphone structure and a unique algorithm to accurately determine normal breathing, snoring, and apnea during sleep, and when snoring and apnea are detected, the product is designed to reduce them using physical stimulation through vibration.
